The most frequently asked questions & answers (FAQs)

Ugears is a Ukrainian manufacturer that gained international recognition thanks to a crazy idea: "What if we built models that move on their own?" The result: the world’s first self-propelled mechanical wooden kits. Wooden vehicles powered by rubber bands that roll across the table. Wooden safes with working combination locks. Wooden clocks with real clockworks. Ugears essentially invented this entire product category; many of today’s well-known brands are based on Ugears concepts.
Ugears brings engineering to life. Every model is a working mechanical machine—not just a decoration. A Ugears truck drives. A Ugears safe can be opened with a combination lock. A Ugears clock ticks. This is no small feat, but true engineering artistry brought to life in wood. Add to that the distinctive Ugears aesthetic: warm natural wood with visible mechanics, all clearly visible. You can see gears turning, springs oscillating, and levers engaging.
For engineers, technicians, craftsmen, and anyone who loves mechanics. Also perfect as a gift for fathers, grandfathers, and uncles—a men’s hobby at its best. Most Ugears models are suitable for beginners to advanced builders (recommended for ages 14 and up), while some more spectacular models (safes, complex vehicles) are more challenging. Build times range from 3 to 15 hours, perfect for a creative Saturday or a long weekend.
Yes, most of them do. That’s the whole point: these mechanical vehicles have a built-in rubber band drive. You wind the rubber band by simply pulling it back (turning the wheels backward), set the vehicle down—and it drives across the table on its own. The larger the model, the longer it runs. Safes can be opened and locked with a combination. Clocks display real time. That’s the Ugears wow factor.
Write to us, and we’ll ship a free replacement from Germany within 24 hours. Ugears models, in particular, have many small parts and complex mechanisms—so things can sometimes go wrong. With our service, you won’t be left with broken parts. If you encounter assembly issues (e.g., the mechanism isn’t working as expected), our team is available via chat, phone, or WhatsApp—we often have a tip or know the solution from experience.

Pioneers of self-driving wooden models
Ugears has defined this entire product category: mechanical wooden models that actually move. The rubber-band drive, the working gears, the visible mechanics—all of this is part of Ugears’ DNA. While other brands now offer similar concepts, Ugears remains the original. Anyone who sees a Ugears locomotive rolling across the table or watches a Ugears clock ticking away immediately understands the fascination: this is engineering art you can touch.
Mechanics you can see and feel
Typical Ugears: The mechanics aren’t hidden—they’re clearly visible. You can see the gears turning, the springs moving, and the levers engaging. This has a charm that modern plastic models simply can’t match. Ugears models are almost like teaching aids: you understand how the mechanics work because you see them in action. No wonder physics teachers and engineering students often become Ugears fans—and pass their enthusiasm on to their children.
The perfect gift for men
Ugears is one of the most popular brands for gifts for men—and for good reason. Tech-savvy men love the mechanical aspect. Collectors love the aesthetic quality of the wood. Fathers and sons build them together. And unlike many gifts, unwrapping one doesn’t just bring a brief moment of joy—it leads to hours of intense engagement. For birthdays, Father’s Day, or Christmas: a Ugears model is always a hit.
Quality and Service from Berlin
Ugears is a Ukrainian brand. At MagicHolz , you get the original Ugears quality with additional services from Germany: shipping from a German warehouse (usually within 24 hours), personalized customer service, and free replacement parts when needed. You’re ordering from a German company with German consumer rights, a German invoice, and personalized support—but with the original Ugears kits. The best of both worlds.
