Ready for work, you drive your Chevy truck along the old logging road at the edge of the forest and follow the tracks into the dark green heart of the forest. You pull off the road, park the truck closer to the trees and unload your equipment. Birdsong and the buzz of insects fill your ears. The damp smell of plants, loamy earth and the smell of petrol surrounding the truck gladdens your heart. You check the oil in the saw. It's ready to go. Three powerful pulls and it starts. Even before the sun rises, the first felled trunks are piled up on the loading area of the pickup.
