Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is it to build the Little Galaxy?
We rate this as Level 4 for craft enthusiasts—one of the more challenging levels. The 101 pieces are manageable, but since they form a music box mechanism rather than a purely decorative item, it’s important to work carefully. Step-by-step instructions are included, along with an assembly video. Plan on spending 2 to 5 hours on this project.
What will the Little Galaxy do when it's finished?
When you wind up the music box, it plays a melody while the planets orbit the sun. The planets are made of colorful acrylic, and the model recreates the positions and movements of the planets and moons. The movement is powered by the music box’s winding mechanism.
Do I need glue or tools?
No, neither. The parts are snapped together without glue or tools. We offer a model-building tool set separately in case you have trouble popping the parts out.
How much space does the music box need?
When assembled, it measures 14 x 14 x 16 cm. The base is about the size of a CD case, and it’s 16 cm tall. This means it fits on a nightstand, a shelf, or a desk.
What if a part breaks when I push it out?
Spare parts are provided on the mounting plates for particularly critical components. If you need a part that isn't listed there, please contact us via our contact form or the HelpCenter, specifying the model and part number. There is no charge for this.
Who would enjoy the "Little Galaxy" as a gift?
Our recommended age is 16. It's suitable for music and astronomy fans who have built something before, since, at Level 4, it's not an entry-level model. Once built, it remains in use as a music box and isn't just put away.
Construction & Details
On a crystal-clear night, you can see the stars and the surrounding galaxy, but if it happens to be cloudy and dark around you and you can no longer see any stars in the sky to reach for, then our little music box can help you and give you a new perspective. The stars are closer than you think. With this model of the solar system, the colorful acrylic planets orbit the sun. No glue is needed.
- Illustration of the Solar System with Planets and Moons
- Plays an enchanting melody when wound up
- Solar system with planets moves impressively
- No glue & no tools are required
Simple picture-by-picture instructions
The small galaxy, as well as all other wooden models, comes with easy-to-follow illustrated instructions. This makes it very easy to build your finished model step by step. Need help? No problem—feel free to contact us anytime.
Interaction of technology & astronomy
The small galaxy is a replica of an ancient planetary mechanism. It is inspired by a model of the solar system that illustrates the relative positions and movements of the planets and moons. The planets are made of colorful acrylic and orbit the sun while the melody plays.
