On its upper part were two bells against which a small, movable hammer struck. You wound the alarm clock with a key, set the time to wake you up, and as soon as the hour hand on the clock matched the alarm hand, the alarm began to ring loudly until you turned it off or banged it against the wall (a no-alarm option)! Can you imagine such an amazing, simple yet ingenious mechanism ever existing?
