In German, this means "A new map of all countries and the new world". The cartographer's name, Blaeu, was subsequently pasted over the dedication. Joan Blaeu was a famous Dutch cartographer who had already created the most elaborate and expensive European atlas of the 17th century. The world map reproduced here shows the Western and Eastern Hemispheres in two magnificently luminous circles, with the continents and oceans of the earth, with interesting pictorial scenes such as a medieval battle or seafarers like Ferdinand Magellan. Above the title of the map are eleven additional portraits, the middle one showing the Pope of the time.
